MA in Hispanic Studies

The Master of/Magisteriate in Arts (Hispanic Studies) provides graduate students with an integrated second cycle education — either as a preparation for further graduate work at the Doctoral level and a career in Hispanic cultural and/or literary research; or as a possible terminal degree for students interested in employment outside the academy after the master's degree.

The program's flexibility aims to allow students to pursue their interests and, if desired, begin specialized study while providing a solid graduate degree at the master's level.

While the program does not lead to a provincial teaching licence or membership in the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec, career options would include: translation in a variety of professional milieus; teaching in CEGEPs and in the numerous private language academies in Montréal (as well as teaching Spanish for those already licensed to teach in the public schools); journalism and creative writing; tourism; and government positions, including diplomacy.
