Modern Languages

Chinese

The department offers two 30-credit programs in Modern Chinese Language and Culture: the Minor and the Certificate. The Minor program gives students majoring in another discipline a valid and adequate background in Chinese language and culture studies.

Both programs aim to provide minimum language competency in Mandarin and, through the inclusion of courses on culture, literature and topics offered by other departments (history, religion, and political science), a broad overview of Chinese culture. Students with advanced Mandarin skills are not eligible for admission to either the Minor or the Certificate program.

Program requirements and course descriptions for the Minor and Certificate programs can be found in the Undergraduate Calendar.
